AI Disclosure & Human Accountability Statement

Our Position on Artificial Intelligence

At Image Group International, we believe that transparency is not a legal obligation to be managed. It is a professional standard to be lived.

As artificial intelligence tools become increasingly embedded in professional practice across every industry, we have made a deliberate decision to be explicit about how we use them, where we don’t, and why the distinction matters … to us, and to the clients and communities we serve.

What We Use AI For

Members of the IGI team may use AI tools as part of our professional practice. We may use them for research synthesis, first-draft generation, scenario modelling, content organisation, and accelerating work that benefits from the processing capabilities these tools provide.

We are honest about this because the alternative … presenting AI-assisted work as entirely human-created without disclosure … is, in our view, both ethically problematic and strategically short-sighted. The business advisory industries are currently experiencing widespread non-disclosure in this space. We have chosen a different standard.

What AI Does Not Do at IGI

AI does not advise our clients.

AI does not make strategic recommendations.

AI does not exercise judgment, form opinions, or bring the accumulated understanding of people, organisations, and consequences that only comes from having operated at the coalface of real professional life over an extended period.

Every piece of advice, every strategic recommendation, and every assessment of a client’s reputation, leadership presence, or personal brand positioning that leaves IGI is backed by a human with real-world, hands-on experience.

Jon Michail, founder of IGI, has spent 37 years advising leaders at moments where trust, visibility, and consequence intersect. That experience … the pattern recognition, the relational intelligence, the wisdom accumulated through thousands of real engagements across four decades … is what our clients engage when they work with IGI.

He does not work alone.

The IGI team brings a combined professional experience of over 180 years across leadership advisory, personal brand strategy, reputation management, communications, media networks and organisational development. This is not a collection of generalists augmented by AI tools. It is a team of practitioners who have operated at the coalface of real professional life … across industries, across cultures, across the full spectrum of leadership challenges that only time, exposure, and genuine accountability produce.

That accumulated human experience … 180 years of pattern recognition, professional judgment, and real-world consequence … is the foundation on which every IGI engagement rests.

No AI system replicates it. No AI system replaces it. And no AI system will ever be presented by IGI as a substitute for it.

The Distinction That Matters

There is an important distinction between AI-assisted work and AI-generated work … and we take it seriously.

AI-assisted work is human work that has been informed, accelerated, or refined by AI tools, where the perspective, the judgment, the relational understanding, and the professional accountability remain entirely human. The AI is a tool in the service of the human practitioner’s expertise.

AI-generated work is output produced primarily by AI, where the human contribution is limited to the prompt and the selection of one generated option over another. The human is, in effect, a curator of machine output rather than a practitioner exercising professional judgment.

IGI may produce AI-assisted work in the first sense. We do not present AI-generated work as professional advisory output. The distinction is not always visible from the outside. It is always visible from the inside. And we hold ourselves to it because our clients deserve to know that the work they receive reflects genuine human judgment,  not a well-prompted machine.

Why This Matters in Leadership and Advisory Work Specifically

We work with leaders. And the question of AI’s role in leadership is one we have thought about carefully,  because it is the most consequential version of the question currently being asked across every professional domain.

AI can help a leader think more clearly. It can help identify blind spots, stress-test positions, draft communications, and prepare for difficult conversations. Used well, it is a genuinely valuable augmentation of human capability.

Used poorly, it produces something that looks like leadership without being it.

Leadership is not the production of well-reasoned outputs. It is thinking integrated with character with relational intelligence, with the accumulated understanding of people and organisations and consequences that only comes from having led through difficulty, made mistakes, absorbed the feedback, and developed wisdom from the experience.

A leader who uses AI to generate their strategic positions and communications without doing the underlying work of developing their own judgment is not a leader augmented by AI. They are a person presenting AI outputs as leadership.

The people they lead will feel the difference. The clients they serve will feel the difference. And in a professional advisory context, the difference is not a detail. It is the entire value proposition.

At IGI, we advise leaders on the gap between who they are and how they are perceived. We cannot do that work with integrity while presenting a version of ourselves that is other than what we are.

Our Commitment

We commit to the following standards in our use of AI tools:

Disclosure where it matters: Where AI tools have contributed materially to work product delivered to clients, we will be clear about that contribution on request. We will never present AI-generated analysis or recommendations as the independent professional judgment of an IGI practitioner.

Human accountability for all advice: Every recommendation, assessment, and strategic position delivered by IGI is owned by the human professional who delivers it. AI tools may inform that work. They do not determine it.

The primacy of applied experience: The value IGI delivers is not the output of any tool. It is the perspective, the process, the relationship, the meaning, and the irreducible human presence that 37 + years of Jon Michail’s in-the-trenches applied experience produce. AI has made it urgent to articulate this. We articulate it without hesitation.

Ongoing honest reckoning: As AI tools evolve and our use of them evolves, our disclosure will evolve with it. We will not allow the normalisation of AI use across our industry to become a reason for reduced transparency about our own practice.

A Final Word

We believe that the professional advisory industry is at an inflection point on the question of AI disclosure and that the choice being made now, by firms and practitioners across every discipline, will define professional standards for a generation.

Some will choose non-disclosure because disclosure feels like a competitive disadvantage. We believe the opposite is true. In a trust economy … and advisory work is always, at its core, a trust economy … the professionals who are honest about what they are and what they use will be trusted more, not less, than those who are not.

We have built IGI’s reputation over 37 years on the belief that the gap between stated values and lived conduct is always visible to clients, to peers, and ultimately to the market.

We intend to keep our conduct and our values on the same side of that gap.

On AI, as on everything else.
